Hi All: Been off line a day or so. I finally got out and went fishing again. This time for salmon and Halibut. Went out yesterday at 0500 aboard a fishing boat. We took off and went about 1 1/2 hours out of Homer and started fishing. Trolling for Salmon. Caught a bunch of them, Only allowed to keep 3 per person, so we were throwing a lot of them back in hoping we would get a bigger one. I ended up with 2 nice Silver salmon, and One nice Red Salmon. We also caught many small Halibut around 10 pounds. Guide said it is strange for them to be coming up to the 35 foot depth's we were fishing from the bottom at 88 feet. Didn't keep any of the Halibut there. Wanted bigger ones. I wanted two at around 20 pounds. We then went to the Halibut fishing area. 190 feet deep waters. Had to drop the cut bait to the bottom which took an awful long time with the 2 pound sinker attached. Pick up the weight about 2 feet off the bottom and wait for the Halibut. It only took a few seconds and one was on the line, then you had to crank it back up the 190 feet, with the halibut really not wanting to come up there. We caught a lot of smaller ones again and had to release them. I finally caught one a little over 15 pounds so I claimed it as my first fish there. Kept catching small ones again, and my arms were beginning to tire, I caught another 15 pounder and claimed it as my 2nd fish, so I was done. Had about an hour left of fishing, but I was ready to watch others catch fish. They all were throwing the 15 + pounders back wanting the 50 to 60 pounders until we had about 15 minutes left of fishing. They soon lowered their wants to the 15 pound range and started to keep that size fish. Finally had one guy still catching 10+ pounders, and needed one more fish for his max. We had to wait about half hour for him to catch his last 15+ pound fish. He had thrown back some in the 20 pound range wanting the big one. Greed has a way of getting ya huh..
The photo above is of a dormant volcano way off in the distance covered in snot. Beautiful. Hope you all can see it.

Another shot of the beautiful mountains that are on the other side of the Cook Inlet here In Homer. The snow stays there all summer.. Just super looking.

Another view of the Mountains and snow. We can see these from our window of the Motor home at this campground...It's great

They didn't hang up the fish so we can get pictures of them, so as the 1st Mate was getting ready to fillet them on the way back to the dock I snapped a couple photos to show the fish as caught. These are Halibut. Big Flounders...They grow to near 400 pounds. Sure didn't want to catch one that big. Would still be out there trying to land it..

Joe, the First Mate filleting the fish on the way back in. He sure knew how to do it. He cut the filet's out and left skin on one side. I had to skin the fillet when I got the things back to the Motor Home, and Amy vacuum packed them. We ended up with 29.1 pounds of meat. Took the meat to a processor this morning and they will freeze them and mail them to Ken and Kate in Floral City. They will probably eat them before we get back, but Hope they leave a couple pieces for us.hee hee

These are the Silver Salmon we caught. There were 4 of us fishermen, so we had 12 Total Salmon on the trip. One guy got one small King Salmon. I did get a King stamp, but did not get one..The Silver Salmon is as good they say to eat....

Another Nasty look at the Halibut we caught on the deck just before Joe the first mate took the knife to them. He sure did it quick and efficient. They say you get about 70% of the meat from the Halibut. That's a pretty good return on total weight...
Well, that's about it for now. Amy is off in town shopping at the little shops. Called me a while ago that she found a beauty shop that will cut her hair, so will be a little late. It's nice we have the phone in the car with "On Star",and she can call me on her Cell phone here...
I'm sure happy about the trip yesterday. The weather was perfect, even had some blue sky,and sun. Kinda hot catching the fish, had to shed the jacket. The water was like a smooth lake almost. Really a perfect trip. AND No 9 year old Turds on the boat. However, I think I was the oldest. That seems to be happening more and more these days. hee hee.
Bob.. When you come up here, be sure to go see "Bob's Trophy Charters" and go fishing. You will get a $5 discount as your name is Bob also... You'd really enjoy the trip if it is half as good as mine was....
Semper Fi.
