Hi All: Well, we finally made it to 29 Palms. Could not believe the changes that 30+ years have had on this area. The base has just about been completely rebuilt. All the housing areas have been rebuilt. New houses everywhere. Real nice too. Went to the PX which is a LARGE on now compared to the one we remember. Also went to the Commissary and it is in a different place and it also is LARGE. Very nice.... They also had a "Package Store" as part of the PX. Did not get to any of the Clubs on base. Photo above is going down the road toward the base that you can see out on the base of the mountains....

Above is the water tank on the base that they have painted. Most of the large building in town are also painted with pictures of things. Beautiful

Another mural that was on a building on the base. Someone sure is talented. Have you been out here Harry????

These are some of the 29 Palms at the 29 Palms Inn in town. We did drive by the place, and it hasn't changed all that much since we were here before....
We leave in the morning for Williams, AZ. It's 316 miles, and will leave us a short drive down to Verde Valley where we will be for a while before going on south to Jack and Yoli's. Amy has reservations at all the places so we have a place to stay when we get there. Will be nice to get in North Arizona where it will be a little cooler. It is 113 here today. A/C is working like mad to keep it in the 80's in the motor home.....

  1. palm trees all over the place now...

when i first arrived there, no palms could be found on the base anywhere, but one morning about two years later i drove in to work and saw a row of fully-grown palm trees being installed on the right-hand side of the road by a work crew. on the way home that afternoon, the job had been completed. then the next morning, as i drove past counting each tree and ending up with a total of 29, a small scarlet-and-yellow sign installed after the last one read, "you're right!"
